Soakaway crate installation

Crate soakaways that infiltrate, installed to the design.

Where the ground can take it, a soakaway is the simplest, most sustainable answer to surface water: store the storm in a geotextile-wrapped crate structure and let it infiltrate back into the earth. We install soakaway systems sized to your percolation results and drainage design.

Soakaway Tanks in short

A soakaway is a geotextile-wrapped crate structure that stores stormwater below ground and lets it infiltrate back into the earth, where percolation results show the ground can take it. Aquatech Civils supplies and installs soakaway crates, or installs only, into the groundworker's dig, makes the silt management connections and closes the wrap ready for backfill, with inspection records and handover documentation.

The system

What's in the package

One team from supply to handover documentation.

  1. Crates and geotextile supplied to the design
  2. Install into your dig, sequenced with your groundworks
  3. Silt management connections
  4. Wrap closed and handed over ready for your backfill
  5. Inspection records and handover documentation

How it goes in

Installation process

  1. 01

    PH-01

    Design confirmation

We work from your percolation results and engineer's design — sizing, depth and separation distances all confirmed before your groundworker digs.

  2. 02

    PH-02

    Formation check

We don't dig — your groundworker excavates and forms the pit to level. We check the base will let the crate structure sit true before anything goes in.

  3. 03

    PH-03

    Geotextile & crates

A permeable geotextile wrap keeps fines out while water passes through. Crates are assembled inside it to the designed volume.

  4. 04

    PH-04

    Connections & wrap

Inlets and silt management are connected and the geotextile wrap is closed over the structure. Backfill is then placed by your contractor — we hand the structure over ready for it.

  5. 05

    PH-05

    Sign-off

The completed system is inspected and documented for building control and your records.

Built to the design

Installed to your engineer's drawings and the manufacturer's detail. If something won't work, we tell you before we start.

Documented to sign-off

QA and handover records as standard, covering what building control and adopting authorities ask for.

Frequently asked questions

It comes down to what your ground can absorb. Good percolation results and enough separation from groundwater and buildings point to a soakaway. Poor infiltration or a discharge consent points to attenuation. Your drainage engineer decides; we build either.

No. Your groundworker excavates the pit, and your contractor backfills once we've handed over. We check the formation before we start, build and wrap the crate structure, make the connections, and hand it over closed and ready for backfill.

Yes — a soakaway sized without one is a guess. Testing is normally arranged by your engineer; we build to the results.

Heavy clay usually rules out infiltration, which is exactly when attenuation with a controlled discharge becomes the right system. If your results are marginal, we'll say so rather than install something that won't drain.

The crates themselves are maintenance-free. What needs attention is silt management upstream — catchpits and filters should be inspected and emptied periodically so fines never reach the structure.
