SVC-05 · Slurry Lagoons
Slurry and digestate lagoon lining
Lined slurry and digestate lagoons for farms and AD plants.
Slurry and digestate storage is regulated for a reason — one failure can put a farm's future and a watercourse at risk. We line new and existing lagoons with welded membrane systems — from a single liner on protection fleece to a double-lined build-up with leak detection and a floating cover — built to satisfy storage regulations and the inspector who enforces them.
- Applications
- Slurry, digestate, dirty water
- Liners
- HDPE / LLDPE, single or double
- Protection
- 300gsm non-woven fleece beneath
- Leak detection
- Drainage layer between liners

Slurry Lagoons in short
A lined slurry lagoon is a store for slurry, digestate or dirty water, sealed with a welded membrane so that its contents cannot leak into the ground. Aquatech Civils lines new and existing lagoons, from a single welded liner on protection fleece to a double-lined HDPE or LLDPE build-up with leak detection and a floating cover. Every job has a recorded test weld and a compliance QA pack.

How it goes in
Installation process
- 01
PH-01
Requirements & build-up
Capacity, freeboard and the liner build-up — single or double-lined, with or without leak detection and a floating cover — are confirmed against the design before anything is ordered.
- 02
PH-02
Profile check
Banks, base and anchor trenches are formed by your earthworks contractor. We check the profile and the trenches against the lining design before the liner arrives.
- 03
PH-03
Fleece & first liner
A protective non-woven fleece goes down first, so the formation can't puncture what goes on it. The first impermeable liner — the secondary liner on a double-lined lagoon — is deployed over it and welded panel to panel.
- 04
PH-04
Drainage layer & primary liner
Where the design is double-lined, a drainage medium goes over the secondary liner to carry any seepage to a leak-detection point, then the primary liner is welded over the top.
- 05
PH-05
Fittings, testing & cover
Fill points, draw-off and level indication are detailed and sealed, a test weld is recorded, and a floating cover is fitted where specified.
- 06
PH-06
Compliance handover
You receive the QA pack — materials, weld records, as-builts — that inspections and insurers ask for.

Frequently asked questions
Broadly: enough capacity for the storage period your situation demands, adequate freeboard, and construction that won't leak — with rules such as SSAFO applying to new and substantially altered stores. Your consultant confirms the specifics; our lining and documentation are built to satisfy them.
Often, yes — after inspection. Banks are re-profiled where needed, the formation is prepared, and the welded liner is installed with proper anchorage. It's routinely cheaper than building new storage.
It depends on what's stored and what the permit asks for. On our most recent lagoon, from the bottom up: a 300gsm non-woven protection geotextile, a 1.5mm HDPE secondary liner, an intermediate drainage layer, a 2mm primary liner, and a 1.5mm floating cover over the top. A simpler store may need only the fleece and a single welded liner.
A drainage medium between a primary and a secondary liner that routes any seepage from the primary to an inspection point — so you can prove the lagoon is tight instead of assuming it. Some permits require it; we install it where specified.
Welded HDPE and LLDPE systems are engineered for decades of service in contact with slurry. The liner generally outlives the pumps and fittings around it.
