Slurry lagoon lining in Worcestershire

Most of Worcestershire's livestock is in the west and north, on the dairy and beef farms of the Teme valley and the border country beyond the Severn. We line slurry and digestate lagoons there with welded membrane and leave a compliance pack the inspector can follow.

Stores above sensitive rivers

A slurry store in the Teme valley often sits a short way above a river valued for its fish and wildlife, and on sloping ground a leak does not stay put. The Severn, the Teme and the brooks feeding them are why storage rules are enforced carefully here, and why a welded lining is worth more than a compacted clay bank that may or may not hold.

The Vale of Evesham is different country: mostly fruit and vegetables, with fewer livestock units. Lagoon work in the county leans west, towards Tenbury, Bewdley and the Herefordshire and Shropshire borders, with anaerobic digestion plants scattered more widely.

Build-ups we install

The build-up comes from your consultant and the permit, not from us. A modest Teme valley store might get a fleece and one sheet, HDPE or LLDPE, welded at every seam. Larger stores and AD digestate lagoons tend to get two sheets with a drainage layer sandwiched between them, so that any weep through the top sheet shows up at an inspection pipe.

  • 300gsm non-woven fleece over the formation
  • Secondary liner welded panel to panel
  • Drainage medium between the liners where specified
  • Primary liner welded over the top
  • Floating cover on top if the permit or design wants one

Relining an old earth-banked store

Plenty of Worcestershire farms still rely on earth-banked lagoons built decades ago, and lining one is often cheaper than building new storage. Once we have looked at it, your earthworks contractor cuts the old banks back to a sound profile and digs new crest trenches. We measure the slopes against the drawing, then line the store and seal in the inlet, the outlet pipe and the depth marker.

Records for the inspector

Every lagoon gets a recorded test weld, made on an offcut of the same sheet with the same machine settings used on the store. The farm keeps a QA file listing the sheet used, every weld check and how the store was finally built, which is the first thing an inspector or insurer will ask for.

If the farm later adds a second cell or enlarges the store, the new work is recorded in the same format, so the paperwork for the whole yard stays together and reads as one story.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, though livestock stores are fewer there because the Vale is mainly horticulture. We are more often asked for lined irrigation reservoirs in the Vale and for slurry lagoons further west.

Yes. Digestate stores are usually double-lined with leak detection and are often covered. We build to the specification and permit requirements your consultant sets.

Wet weather is part of lagoon work in the Severn basin. Welding needs a clean, dry sheet, so we sequence panels around the weather rather than weld in conditions that would weaken a seam.

Your earthworks contractor. We check the profile and trenches before the liner arrives, and say so if anything needs reworking.
