Galvanised steel tanks in Wolverhampton

Factories along the M54, haulage depots off the M6 and farms on the Staffordshire side of the city all need water stored in volume. Bolted galvanised panels with a liner inside give them that store above ground, and quickly.

Industrial water along the M54

Manufacturing sites north of the city use water for process, cooling, testing and cleaning, and many now recycle what they can. A steel tank holds process or recycled water next to the building where it is needed, with every inlet and outlet in reach for maintenance. Keeping the store close to the process also means shorter pipe runs and less pumping.

Big roofs on the same estates collect a lot of rain. A rainwater harvesting tank fed from the gutters can supply toilet flushing, wash-down and landscape watering, and an above-ground tank avoids digging into ground that may be contaminated.

Depots, yards and farms

Regeneration sites in the east of the city are worth a mention. Where a dig would mean handling made ground, keeping the store above it can be the simpler answer.

  • Vehicle and plant wash-down at haulage and bus depots
  • Wheel-wash supply on construction and recycling yards
  • Irrigation for growers and nurseries west of the city
  • Stock water and parlour wash-down on dairy farms
  • Sports and golf irrigation fed from a borehole

How the tank goes up

The base comes from others, usually a reinforced slab or a prepared pad able to take the tank when full. We survey its level and setting out before the steel is delivered, since any error in the base shows up in the panels above.

Panels are lifted and bolted in courses, the lowest first, until the tank stands at its full planned height. Inside, a made-to-measure liner holds the water on its own; the bolted joints stay dry and the steel only carries load. We fit and seal the inlets, outlets, overflow and level indication, and fill the tank in steps, watching joints and fittings as the load builds, before it goes into use.

Fitting into a working yard

Most tanks in Wolverhampton go up on sites that are already busy: a depot with lorries coming and going, a factory yard with forklifts, a farmyard at milking time. Bolted panels arrive flat and are assembled by hand without heavy lifting plant, so the footprint of the works stays small. We agree a working area with the site manager and keep to it.

Capacity now, flexibility later

We advise on capacity and siting at the outset, from tens to thousands of cubic metres. A bolted shell also means the tank can come down and go back up if the business moves or the yard is reorganised. If that is likely, tell us before ordering so the specification allows for it.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Process and recycled water are common uses on manufacturing sites. Let us know what is in the water, and we will specify the liner and fittings for it.

Level and strong enough for a full tank, and built by others, most often in reinforced concrete. Tell us the capacity and we will spell out what the slab has to achieve.

Within days of the base being ready. Assembly, lining, pipework and a staged fill are all done in one visit.
