ATC-0276 · Attenuation

Two adoptable storage tanks, 276m³ in total

Two adoptable storage tanks on a housing development at Oxspring: a 183m³ main tank 2.5m deep and a 93m³ offline tank, both lined, welded and pressure-tested to adoption standard.

What we did

Tank 2, the main adoptable tank, is 4.8m × 15.2m × 2.5m deep, lined with 0.6mm Junifold geomembrane (82m × 2.5m) over 100m of geotextile. The 93m³ offline tank, 8.8m × 9.6m × 1.1m, was lined in LDPE (45m × 5.8m) over 44m × 6m of geotextile. We built the crate systems in both and sealed the connections through the wrap.

02

The tricky bits

Adoptable tanks are inspected before the water company takes them on, so nothing gets covered until it's proven. The base welds on both tanks were pressure-tested to 1 bar, marked up and photographed before the crates went in.

03

What we delivered

276m³ of adoptable storage across two tanks, each with a recorded weld test ready for the adoption inspection.

04

Two tanks, two visits

The two tanks were built on separate visits. The 93m³ offline tank went in first and was signed off at the end of April 2026. The 183m³ main tank followed and was signed off in late June 2026.

They are very different shapes. The offline tank is close to square in plan and 1.1m deep. The main tank is long and narrow, and at 2.5m it is more than twice as deep.

05

Materials

Each tank's membrane was matched to its shape. The long, narrow main tank was lined in 0.6mm Junifold geomembrane from 2.5m-wide rolls, 82m of it. The squarer offline tank took LDPE from 5.8m-wide rolls, 45m in all, over a 6m-wide geotextile.

Every joint on both tanks was heat-welded. None were taped.

06

Records for adoption

An adopting authority wants proof that a tank is sound before it takes it on. Alongside the photographed base weld tests, each tank was handed over with its weld test records, as-built details and a QA sign-off.
