What we did
We lined the containment bund with a welded impermeable membrane over protective fleece, dressed up the bund walls and detailed at every penetration and transition. Secondary containment only works if it's genuinely tight, so every seam was extrusion welded.
The tricky bits
Containment lining lives on the details — corners, the transition up the bund wall, and each penetration. All were individually formed and sealed so the finished bund holds its rated volume with no weak points.
What we delivered
A tested, documented containment system that gives the operator — and the regulator — confidence that a spill stays where it can be dealt with.
What the bund does
The lined bund around the AD plant does two jobs. If the plant is ever breached, it holds the contents as secondary containment. Day to day, it keeps surface water out of the plant itself.
The liner
The bund was lined in 1.5mm HDPE, with every seam extrusion welded and tested. Much of the work was forming the liner around the plant's many existing penetrations.
There was no formal lining specification for the bund, and the liner was held down with interlocking precast concrete blocks made on site. Neither is how we usually work, so the details were agreed with the site team as the job went.
Programme
The work was done over two site visits, five days of installation in all, and handed over on schedule in May 2026. Extra materials needed partway through were sourced at short notice.
